AI and credits

Which AI your OS runs on, choosing a model, and how credits work.

Two ways your OS can run

Admins see which applies under AI and credits on the connections page. If it says managed AI is being switched on, your OS keeps working on its current setup in the meantime.

Connect your ChatGPT

An admin can put your OS on your own ChatGPT account in about a minute. No password is ever shared with us or your OS.

  1. In Slack, message your OS: connect my ChatGPT. Or, on the connections page, press Connect ChatGPT under Your ChatGPT.
  2. Within a few seconds you get a link and a short code, like ABCD-12345.
  3. Open the link, sign in with your ChatGPT account, and enter the code. The code works for 15 minutes.
  4. Your OS checks that your account really answers, switches over, and tells you it is connected. The connections page shows Connected.
Only admins can do this, because it changes the AI the whole team's OS runs on. Saying it again later connects a different ChatGPT account in place of the old one.

When your ChatGPT hits its limit

ChatGPT limits how much each account can do in a few hours. When your account reaches its limit, your OS carries on using managed AI from your credits, without you doing anything. When your ChatGPT limit resets, your OS goes back to it on its own.

If your credits are also empty at that moment, your OS tells you plainly that your AI credits have run out. Add credits, or wait for your ChatGPT limit to reset.

Scheduled jobs that run every few minutes use up a ChatGPT limit fastest. If you hit it often, ask your OS: list my scheduled tasks and space them out.

Choosing a model

Admins pick the model under Model your OS uses. The change applies from your OS's next message. The menu today:

ModelGood for
Gemini 3.8 FlashFast and sharp. Best value. Default.
Claude Sonnet 5.5Best writing and judgment.
Claude Opus 5.5Most capable. Costs the most.
GPT-5.6 SolOpenAI's strong all-rounder.
GPT-5.6 LunaCheapest OpenAI. Good for simple work.
Grok 4.7Strong on live and current topics.
Kimi K3Long documents at a low input price.

Want a model that is not on the menu? Type its name in the box under the menu, for example deepseek/deepseek-v4, and press Use. If we can run it, it is saved and works like any other model, billed from the same credits.

Bigger models think harder and use credits faster. Small background chores (titles, tidying long conversations) run on a cheaper model automatically and show as Background tasks.

Seeing your credits

Admins see Credits left and the most recent usage, each with its model, date and cost. Members do not see credits. New accounts start with a small starter balance so you can try things straight away.

If your account is run by an agency, you see Spent in the last 30 days instead of a balance, because your provider covers AI usage.

Buying credits

Credits are added to your account by your provider.

Rolling out

Buy by card. Admins see buttons for $20, $30 and $50 credit packs under AI and credits. Pick one and pay on the secure card page. Credits appear as soon as the payment clears, usually within a minute. If you cancel, nothing is charged.

Members cannot buy credits. If your account is run by an agency, the page says Credits are managed by your provider: your agency buys them for you.

Card on file

Rolling out

Admins can save a card under AI and credits with Save a card. You enter it on the secure card page; we never see the full number. Once saved it shows as, for example, Visa •••• 4242, with Replace and Remove. Removing the card also turns auto top-up off.

Only admins see the card. Members never do, and if your account is run by an agency you have no card here at all: your provider pays.

Auto top-up

Rolling out

Turn on Top up automatically and choose:

  • Add: how much to add each time ($20, $50, $100, or any amount from $10).
  • When credits fall below: the balance that triggers a top-up, for example $5.
  • Monthly limit: the most we ever add in one calendar month. Once reached, top-ups pause until the 1st.

Your OS never waits for a top-up: the message that drops your balance goes through, and the credits arrive a moment later. However many messages run at once, only one top-up happens.

If the card is declined (or your bank asks to confirm the charge), auto top-up turns itself off and the page shows why. When credits then run out, your OS says Your saved card was declined. Ask your account admin to update it. Replace the card and turn auto top-up back on.

Receipts. Under the card, Receipts lists every pack and top-up with a link to its receipt, and Download this month's usage gives a spreadsheet of your AI use by day and model.

What happens at zero

When credits run out, your OS can no longer use managed AI, and you get a plain message that your AI credits have run out. Nothing else is affected: your connections and data stay exactly as they are. Add credits and it carries on from the next message.

If your own ChatGPT seat is connected, it keeps working.

No ChatGPT connected yet? Connect your ChatGPT so your OS runs on it first and only uses credits as a backup.
